Our work with people who have experienced abuse in care is funded by Future Pathways, who have supported this work since 2016. If you have experienced childhood abuse in care, please register with Future Pathways by calling 0808 164 2005 or by completing an online form . Support from Wellbeing Scotland is one of many resources that you can access through Future Pathways.
Following a referral, your first contact will be with our triage worker, who is an experienced trauma counsellor. They will outline our support pathway and the types of support on offer, whilst assessing your needs. This involves finding out about your present circumstances and wider support network so that we can establish what is important for you and help you to set your own goals.
Emotional support aims to help you establish emotional safety and prepare you for counselling. Understanding your reasons for seeking therapy can help you to feel ready to see a therapist for the first time. Taking the time to decide what is important to you and why you want to access counselling will help you and your therapist get the most out of your sessions.
Counselling offers individuals a safe, confidential space to explore how experiences have impacted on them and/or their family. Counselling can involve setting goals for recovery, addressing the impact childhood experiences are having on your health, wellbeing and quality of life. Our approach recognises that everyone’s experience is individual to them, and the support we offer is framed around your personal needs and goals.
Groupwork provides opportunities for people to share experiences they may have in common and support each other within a safe environment. Groups are led by emotional support workers or counsellors, and offer peer support and help with isolation, health and wellbeing, mindfulness and creative arts.
Sometimes practical issues can be a barrier to enabling you to have the time and space to explore other issues which are causing you difficulties. We can support you to identify and access appropriate help and support to resolve practical issues which you may feel are getting in the way of your recovery
Wellbeing Scotland’s Access to Records team are here to support you with the process of retrieving historical records from time in the care system to accompany your application to Scotland’s Redress Scheme. We were the first Access to Records team to be set up in Scotland and are highly experienced in walking alongside you through the process. We are a Delivery Partner for the Redress Support Service, who forward referrals to our team.
Our role is to work on your behalf to contact data controllers and request access to any records and information they may hold about you. We specifically focus on attempting to recover records which might be used to support your application for Scotland’s Redress Scheme.
